Our members are involved with lots of other activities besides showing dogs! Here is a list with information of many of the activities that our members participate in or have an interest in for fun with their Boxers!

Agility - Running a dog in an agility trial is the ultimate game for you and your dog and is one of the most exciting canine sports for spectators. In an agility trial, a dog demonstrates its agile nature and versatility by following cues from the handler through a timed obstacle course of jumps, tunnels, weave poles and other objects. It’s an activity that strengthens the bond between dog and handler and provides fun and exercise for both, which might explain why it’s so enjoyable to watch and has become the fastest growing dog sport in the U.S.!

Barn Hunt - Barn Hunt is the new and quickly growing dog sport catching fire across the country! Barn Hunt is a fun dog sport that tests a dog's hunting skills. The maze course uses straw bales stacked up to create climbing and tunneling obstacles for dogs to navigate through. The goal is to find the rat hidden in the hay. Great care is taken to make sure both rats and dogs stay safe. To make the hunt more challenging, empty tubes or ones with bedding but no rat are also hidden in the hay. In advanced levels, more than one rat is hidden under the hay somewhere along the course. Dogs need to move through tunnels and climb hay bales to find the tube with the rat.

Canine Good Citizen (CGC) - The CGC Program is designed to reward dogs who have good manners at home and in the community. The CGC is a 10-step test that stresses responsible pet ownership for owners and basic good manners for dogs. Many dog owners choose CGC training as the first step in training their dogs. The CGC lays the foundation for other AKC activities such as obedience, agility, tracking, and performance events. As you work with your dog to teach the CGC skills, you'll discover the many benefits and joys of training your dog. Training will enhance the bond between you and your dog.

Dock Diving - If your dog loves the water and loves to retrieve, then the fun sport of Dock Diving should be a natural. Dock Diving is a dog sport in which dogs compete in jumping for distance or height from a dock into a body of water. It is one of the fastest growing sports for your dog. North America Diving Dogs is an organization that has enhanced the sport by working with dock diving facilities, portable docks & competitors across North America and Canada.

Farm Dog - In the Farm Dog Certified (FDC) test, dogs will work through a series of 12 exercises that represent situations they may come across in a farm environment, and must display trainability, self-control, confidence and trust in their owner throughout the experience. The test is a non-competitive pass/fail evaluation designed to assess the overall conduct of a dog. The dog must demonstrate self-control when exposed to livestock and other unique sights, sounds and scents. The dog should exhibit confidence and a willingness to comply with instructions when confronted with a variety of situations within farm type surroundings.

Fast CAT - Fast CAT, a timed 100-yard dash where a dog chases a lure, is the newest AKC event. The event is a fun and healthy activity for dogs and their owners. In competition, the dogs run one at a time over a straight 100-yard course. Their times are then converted into miles per hour and used as part of a handicap system to assign points earned, which will be used to determine titles and standings.

Lure Coursing (Coursing Ability Test) - The Coursing Ability Test (CAT) is an introductory event fashioned after the sport of Lure Coursing. It tests a dog’s basic coursing instinct or hunting-by-sight ability. The dog chases an artificial lure and in Boxers it is across a 300 yard field course. Dogs are run one at a time. To pass the test, a dog running alone must pursue a lure, completing the course with enthusiasm and without interruption within a given time. Most dogs will happily go after the lure! The CAT provides a lively and healthy activity attractive to many dog owners.

Obedience - Consider taking obedience training with your dog to a whole new level! Help your dog realize its full potential by entering obedience trials and earning competitive obedience titles. AKC obedience trials demonstrate the usefulness of the dog as a companion to man. Developed in the 1930’s it is one of the AKC’s oldest events! Obedience trials showcase dogs that have been trained and conditioned to behave well in the home, in public places, and in the presence of other dogs. AKC trials allow exhibitors and their dogs to enjoy companionship and competition as they proudly earn AKC titles.

Rally - Rally is a companion sport to AKC Obedience. Both require teamwork between dog and handler along with similar performance skills. The dog and handler team move at their own pace, very similar to rally-style auto racing. Rally was designed with the traditional pet owner in mind, but it can still be very challenging for those who enjoy higher levels of competition. A rally course includes 10 to 20 stations, depending on the level. Scoring is not as rigorous as traditional obedience. Communication from the handler to the dog is encouraged and perfect heel position is not required, but there should be a sense of teamwork and enthusiasm as they go through the course.

Scent Work (aka Nose Work) - Scent Work is a sport that mimics the task of working Detection Dogs – such as narcotics dogs or explosives dogs – to find a specific scent and communicate to the handler that the scent has been found. It is a positive, challenging activity that allows dogs the opportunity to use their strongest natural sense in a way that is fun, engaging, and that builds and strengthens a foundation of trust between the handler and the dog. In AKC Scent Work the dog is searching in a pre-defined search area for the hidden odor, which is either an essential oil or handler scent. Searches take place in a variety of environments, including an area with Containers, Interior, Exterior, and Buried.

Tracking - Dogs with the help of their noses are often used to find lost people and animals, drugs, avalanche and disaster victims, and even to detect cancer! AKC Tracking is a canine sport that demonstrates a dog’s natural ability to recognize and follow a scent and is the foundation of canine search and rescue work. Unlike obedience and rally trials, where dogs respond to the handler’s commands, in tracking the dog is completely in charge, for only he knows how to use his nose to find and follow the track. For many, the greatest pleasure of tracking is the hours spent outside training and interacting with their dogs.

Trick Dog - From the 1920’s and 1940’s when trick dogs such as Rin Tin Tin and Lassie won peoples’ hearts, trick dog training has become one of the most exciting new areas in dog training today. Trick Dog includes four levels allowing dogs with any amount of experience the ability to participate. Teaching their dog tricks is enjoyable for owners, mentally stimulating for their dogs and can take place at any time or place that fits their lifestyle.
